Genesi: The Algorithm of Light

Why is there something rather than nothing?

Every work in Genesi began as a question: can light create?

Biology offers one answer. Ultraviolet radiation is the engine of evolution — when it traverses DNA, it mutates it. These controlled errors, accumulated over billions of years, produced every living form on Earth. Creation, in nature, is an algorithmic process: rules, variations, selection. I applied this principle to the digital universe.

The Seed

The process begins with a single photograph of a blue sky — a field of low entropy, pure potential. This is the seed: the initial condition from which everything grows. Like the primordial soup of early Earth, it contains no visible complexity, only the latent possibility of it.

A proprietary algorithm — written by me, not borrowed — applies deterministic mathematical rules with probabilistic variations to this seed. Time, accumulation, and controlled randomness interact to produce what I call phenotypes: visual organisms born from the logic of light itself.

The Selection

The algorithm generates hundreds of iterations. The vast majority are discarded.

From this initial population, I select only the Progenitors — the 14 phenotypes that demonstrate structural and expressive coherence. This is Darwinian selection applied to aesthetics: survival determined not by biological fitness but by conceptual integrity. Approximately 95% of the output is refused. The algorithm produces the chaos. The selection produces the meaning.

This is the moment that defines Genesi as a work within the Compass of Light under the Demiurge archetype: the negentropic act resides entirely in the selection, not the generation. The algorithm is an entropy machine. The artist is the external axiom — the only element in the system capable of recognizing when order has emerged and declaring it sufficient to exist.

The Hybridization

The 14 Progenitors are then paired through digital fusion in post-production. From this process emerge the Hybrids — 30 works that inherit characteristics from both parents while possessing an autonomous vitality: something emergent, greater than the sum of its parts.

Each Hybrid carries a documented genealogy. The metadata records exactly which Progenitors generated it, which algorithmic parameters were applied, which iterations were refused before this one was saved. The work is traceable to its origin, as a species is traceable through its evolutionary lineage.

The complete corpus consists of 1 Seed, 14 Progenitors, 30 Hybrids, and the complete genealogy. Every work is printed on archival Fine Art paper, in a limited edition of 7 + 2AP, accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity and JSON metadata files available.

The Demiurge Paradox

Genesi resolves a paradox that sits at the heart of generative art: if the algorithm produces the form, who is the author?

The answer lies in understanding what the algorithm can and cannot do. It can generate infinite variations. It can produce complexity, turbulence, unexpected beauty. What it cannot do is recognize any of this as meaningful. For the algorithm, every phenotype is an indifferent iteration. The machine produces syntax. It never produces significance.

The artist intervenes as the force that closes this loop. To select Hybrid #008 is to interrupt infinity and declare that this specific configuration — out of all possible configurations — carries weight. This is not a curatorial act. It is a constitutive one. The work exists because the artist decided it should.

Genesi is a creation without a creator — until the artist arrives.
